How to Handle Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual Warfare is a reality for
all sons and daughters of Christ. Spiritual warfare is something we all must deal with at one time or the other. Spiritual warfare will manifest itself differently for different people. For some, an attack of the enemy may be your health while others it just may be your finances. Despite the reality of spiritual warfare, there are things we can do forum to protect ourselves and fight back whenever the enemy attempts to derail our progression towards our destiny! Be careful of your spiritual surroundings Ephesians 6:12 tells us, “We wrestle not against flesh and blood…” Essentially this means our issues aren’t people, places or situations but rather the spirits that influence them! The people at work, school or even the ones you casually date all possess spirits. Some are of God; however, others are not! When we casually expose ourselves to people who possess spirits that aren’t of God, we are exposing ourselves to spiritual warfare, specifically, to the collateral damage of the spirit that surrounds them. Anger, jealousy, hate and even lust are spirits that can slowly creep into our consciousness and impact our emotional and spiritual well-being. Because of this, be careful of the people you allow in your personal space how long work (e.g. home, car, private work areas). If a spirit that is not of God is upon them, their talk, ways and even their attitude could eventually impact you in ways you will not be able to clearly understand. Close all gateways to spiritual attacks Ephesians 2:2 tells us that Satan is the “Power of the air.” It is evident the enemy has power; however, his power is limited! In order to impact you and I, Satan needs access or a “point of entry.” “Point of entry” is critical to spiritual warfare. We must learn how to close gateways for Satan to enter our lives. This appears simplistic; however, it can happen suddenly and the next thing we notice we have exposed our souls to the attack of the enemy. We can drive down the street minding our own business until a car cuts us off or suddenly enters our lane. At that point we are upset and angry and we find ourselves in a fit of rage! The moment we become upset or angry is the moment we give Satan access to manifesting a spirit (e.g. anger, frustration etc.) that is not of God! When these moments appear we must be aware of what the enemy is doing, remain calm and maintain a state of happiness, awareness and peace. When we resist the Devil he will flee! The resistance of the enemy is the best weapon we have while addressing spiritual warfare. Speak God’s word back to the enemy Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “the power of life and death is in the tongue.” When we find ourselves in the midst of spiritual warfare, we must learn how to use the power of God’s word to defeat the enemy! No matter what the issue is, speak God’s word OUTLOUD back to the enemy. If you find yourself being attacked by enemies who seek to bring you down and hold you back, open up your mouth and speak God’s word back to the enemy, “ No weapon formed against me shall prosper!” When someone tells you what you can’t do, or what you can’t have or what you will not be able to accomplish, speak God’s word back, “ I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me!” If we understand the reality of spiritual warfare as well as the limitations of the enemy, we can protect ourselves and be victorious each and every time the enemy desires to come our way!
